I traveled out to Fort Pickens State Park, near Pensacola, over the weekend for my photo hike. I’ve traipsed around the fort before, but this time, I went off the normal path and checked out some of the outer facilities… the batteries. These were where the large cannons and ammo were housed. At Battery Cooper, you can still see the artillery platforms and tracks that allowed the cannons to pivot on their bases.
At Battery Langdon, I climbed to the top, where I had a great view of the Gulf. I was completely out of breath, but it was a beautiful vista.
I also took a little detour to Gulf Shores National Seashore. There was a short boardwalk at the roadside park that I hadn’t followed before. It was a nice stroll in the shade.
