Beer goggles

“There are none so blind, as those who will not see.”

All I can do is shake my head. There’s no talking to her. All she does anymore is speak in clichés and movie quotes. I don’t believe she even knows what half of it really means.

The other’s hang on her every word. “Ooohhing” and “aaahhing” over her profound utterances. Their fawning shows their own ignorance.

It does me no good to show her for the imposter she is. I merely look jealous of her popularity. Which of course, I’m not. I just want them to see her for what she really is – a fraud.

I can only blame myself. I introduced her to everyone. Before she came around, they all looked to me for answers. Now, she’s their golden girl. Well, more like gold lamé girl. Funny how you spell lame and lamé the same. I don’t think that’s a coincidence.

Since she’s been coming around, the guys fall all over themselves trying to please her, and the women want to be her. I don’t understand their attraction to her and her vapid personality.

She’s not even very pretty.

Maybe if I keep downing these beers until I’m blind drunk, I won’t have to see what’s going on.

Trifecta, a weekly one-word prompt, challenges writers to use that word in its third definition form, using no less than 33 words or no more than 333. The week’s prompt is: Blind [adj. \blīnd\] 3a: having no regard to rational discrimination, guidance, or restriction;  b: lacking a directing or controlling consciousness; c: drunk

  1. “She’s not even very pretty.” That line, for me, sums up the narrator’s attitude nicely. A little bit of sour grapes, but totally relatable, and even justified. Loved it.

  2. I think everyone has encountered “that girl” The annoying one who bullshits so much you wonder how people can’t smell it a mile away. Irritating people :)

    Nice job Tara

  3. oh, that was such a great sketch of “that girl”, I remember her from college and from the first few years of trying to “Find myself” instead I found her, and felt even worse about myself.
but the way you wrote it was great too, the fuzzy outline of her and who she really is, is telling in so many ways.

So, tell me what you really think:
