Due to a catastrophic computer fail, and my increasing lack of effort and enthusiasm… I’ve abandoned the attempt to complete my first 365Project. I gave it the ol’ college try, but sadly, I just couldn’t sustain it.
Now, that I’ve dispense with that bit of distasteful housekeeping, on to my weekly photo hike. I will never give these up, they keep me sane…
Last time I tried to visit Saturday’s venue, I forgot my hiking shoes… I came better prepared this time, and even brought water and a change of clothes.
As I hoped, the pitcher plants at Tarklin Bayou Preserve were in bloom. This state preserve is one of the only locations, in all my hikes, that I’ve seen them. The fields were full of the carnivorous beauties, and I hope they were overflowing with pesky mosquitoes.
I also jogged (read: drove) down the road a short distance and stopped in at Big Lagoon State Park.
Both parks are close to Naval Air Station, Pensacola.

(Photos shot with a Nikon D60, using an 18-55mm, 55-200mm, 20mm f/2.8 wide-angle, 50mm f/1.8 prime lens, Nikon CoolPix S205 and/or iPhone4)

NOOOOOOO! You were my shining light keeping me going on my 365 Project. I hope I can make it!
I’ve always loved your hiking shots, Tara! Seeing nature captured in a complete different geographic climate from mine is nothing short of awesome.
I feel the same way about your photos too. They make me long to visit Canada’s great northern territories.
Simply stunning. I would love to have a chance to explore your ‘neighbourhood’, every week it is something new and beautiful that you share with us. I love the picture of the yellow flower, even if it does have a creature with a few too many legs on it!
Pitcher plants? Those are amazing! Beautiful!
The shot of the yellow flower is just perfect!
I love the way your photos take me to places I can’t get to… at least at this point in my life. The pitcher plants are amazing and it makes me happy to think of them filled with mosquitoes. And as much as I dislike spiders, I LOVE the shot of the yellow flower. Such great color and perspective.
Beautiful. These are so “Florida.”
No, you can never give up your photo hikes. They help keep me sane, too. I look forward to them every week.
Now that is what you call camouflage…
You find the most beautiful views. It can be the most basic, and I swear, you find the very best angle! :D
And :( on abandoning the P365. You can always try again later. It took me several fits and starts, and now I’m on Year #3 for it :D
I think 365 is like NaBloPoMo. I typically write/post and photography something everyday anyway, but when I feel obligated to do it, it makes it seem harder to do, and takes the fun out of it…. know what I mean? It’s so much easier when it’s spontaneous.
I know EXACTLY what you mean :D
Once you get in the habit, it’s SO much easier. Otherwise, it becomes work, and that just SUCKS :(
Oh dear I am sorry to hear about your tech problems. I hope you are not too disappointed that you didn’t finish your 365 project.

can you look inside the pitcher plants? It amazes me that some plants live on eating animals. I guess the plant world wants to get even a little bit.
The field was very marshy and wet, and my shoes weren’t water proof so I couldn’t get that close to the plants. I can imagine though, that they had little bug carcasses dissolving at the bottom of their pitchers.
Sorry for computer problems….
your shots are great – like always!
Have a good week ahead!
Sorry for the computer fail! Love these photos, though — especially the last one. The coast is my favorite place to be in the world!
Happy Sunday!

Great pics! I should go on a weekly photo hike… unfortunately the boys often decide otherwise… hence my pics of fire trucks this week :-)
Those docks really make me long to walk down them.
I love Pensacola. The boardwalk is particularly appealing.
Love the wooden walkway near the water’s edge – - – but was it mosquitoey there? Or no-see-emmy?
That was the wonderful part of this hike, there were neither ‘skeeters nor no-see-emms. I was not nibbled on once while out hiking. The pitcher plants must have been feasting.
The pitcher plants are extraordinary!
Every time you post a picture of the Gulf, my husband cringes, because he knows it means a four hour car ride to the beach in the next three months. He hates the beach. I die every day I don’t live by it.
