The gruesome pentimento of his true self was beginning to show through his insidiously crafted façade. His false beauty a funhouse mirror reflecting the face he wanted the world to see, and not what was secreted deep inside his dark, maleficent heart.
Adults adored and envied him. They jockeyed for a position near him, hoping somehow that his affluence and influence would be contagious. They fawned over him, sycophants attending to his mutated ego.
Seeing through eyes that could still discern fairies and secret gardens, children shunned him. His phantasmagorical mask couldn’t hide his nightmarish soul from them for long.
