Project 365 – Week 2

Week two completed! I’m thinking that if I shift my thinking away from taking a daily photo for a year, and instead focus on each week separately, this project won’t seem so daunting. I may try some weekly themes. Any suggestions or requests ~ within reason ~ are welcome.

This project is re-enforcing an old habit of taking my camera with me wherever I go, and forcing me to take more pictures of every day things. There is beauty in the mundane, we just have to look for it.

For Saturday’s shot, taken very early in the morning, I tried to captured a thick layer of frost on our car windows. Frost, in and of itself, isn’t very unique. but it is in Florida.I knew that once the sun was up, it wouldn’t last long so I took the opportunity to take a few photos, and give my neighbors another chance to see me in my mismatched pjs.

“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”

  1. These photos are absolutely gorgeous! I can’t wait to see what you post next week! I am not participating in the 365 Project, but I do have a growing interest in photography and I am currently trying to stay on top of a website in which I post my best work. What kind of camera did you use to take these pictures?

    • Thank you so much for your compliments. My main camera is a Nikon D60, but almost half of these – #1, 2 and 4 – were taken with my iPhone during morning walks near my home.

  3. I love your eye…eyes…d’oh, you know what I mean? You have such an awesome talent in seeing the beauty in, well, everything. The angle taken on the swings is one of my favorites. Also, winter brown. Any reds this time of year?

In fact, I would love to have a house full of your beautiful photos.

  10. The frost shot is brilliant! I have no ideas on themes, except maybe one where you show all the drawbacks of living in paradise. Yeah, jealous I be.

  11. That is an intriguing photo. You just can’t look away until you have figured out what exactly it is that you’re seeing. There’s two things that will always catch my eye. Glittering and water.

  12. It’s great to be in the habit of taking your camera everywhere. It makes you see the world differently, often more clearly!

  13. Oh, I love the quote and your philosophy. There IS beauty all around us, just waiting to be noticed. I think of this often as I come and go from work. Sometimes it’s not practical to be carrying a camera, but there are so many times I wish I had mine.

Frost is too common here. It’s your vegetables that intrigue me. My mind sees a whole market outside the boundaries of your photo. And then I realize, it could just be a section of the produce aisle at your grocery store. Who knows? That’s the beauty of photography. It can be so much bigger than just what is in the photo.

  14. love that the frost image is so abstract at first – it could be anything at first glance. Then upon closer inspection, you can tell what it is.

I’ve been thinking about themes too. I’ve seen ideas such as: one focal length… a specific color… food… macro…
(aack. there are too many to choose from!) :)
