There are a few places I like to photograph simply because they are so intriguing.
One such place I call the Boneyard. It’s a small beach area in Walton County Florida, on the leeward side of Choctawhatchee Bay. Its actual name is Bay Flats.
Along this stretch of beach, sun-bleached and water-smoothed tree trunks lay at odd angles, literally pulled out of the ground. Or else, their roots, like fingers dug into the sand, refuse to yield to the wind and waves.
Left where they landed after a storm, the elements have worked on them until they all resemble the wasted bones of some great extinct beast. What nature didn’t transform, fire has.

(Photos shot with a Nikon D60, using an 18-55mm, 55-200mm, 20mm f/2.8 wide-angle, 50mm f/1.8 prime lens and/or a Nikon CoolPix S205)

These pictures are beautiful. Every time I see your pics from the gorgeous natural areas in your own backyard I get a little jealous about your photo opps, and I have to remind myself that just because I’m in a metropolitan area it doesn’t mean that I don’t have opps: they’re just different!
Given the lead-in words, I was able to immediately envision what these creatures looked like when alive and moving and stalking prey.
What a cool place Tara. I just love these photos…unique, and they have a certain intrigue. And I love the black and white.
I totally LOVE that you went with B&W for this set- they are gorgeous and the black and white really tells it all. I hope you had a wonderful weekend with JM :)
What a unique place!
Your pictures are so cool.
the black and white goes perfectly with this location!
So fun. I love these pictures and what a neat place to just wander. It always amazes me how beautiful so many things can be if we just let them be the way they are meant to be.
I can see why you like that place. It has a slightly eerie yet peaceful look to it. Love the black and white effect of the shots.
amazing shots wow I would love to visit that place! Have a wonderful week!
wow, these are great photos!
Love, love, love the use of B&W.
They are all so spooky. Haunted. And yet gorgeous.
gorgeous photos, as always. Love the b/w. The spiral tree knot is my fave but those exposed roots are just so awesome too!
Gorgeous. I love the different ways you captured this spot. Unique and gorgeous views.
I love these photos in black and white. They’re all gorgeous.
All the pictures are great, but, I liked the Stonehedge one the best :)
One of these days, I’m going to have to get back to Florida, and really get some pictures! You make me realize, each week, more and more, how much I miss that state!!
GORGEOUS shots!
Such a wonderful location full of textures. Love, love this type of photography.
great textures. The second one from the bottom looks like a face winking
Oh goodness, this is an incredible place. I must go! I absolutely have to go. You took the most amazing photos. Thanks so much for linking up to SIMC.
That is fascinating. What incredible pictures you took of this beach. The sand looks so white. Very different than our Jersey shore!
Beautifully photography, I love the one that looks like an eye in the wood.
Thanks for sharing

LOVING this pictures. The trees look like driftwood that hasn’t drifted!
What an amazing place to visit. Your photos are fantastic. I can’t decide if they are stunning or eerie or both at the same time.
I find these photos eerie and intriguing at the same time.
These are enthralling
I love all of the textures!
I definitely see the attraction. Reminds me of scouring the beaches here in Jersey, looking for drift wood, with my dad. He’d bring them home and make some really awesome lamps. We really should have saved some, before their move. Nice shots, as usual, Momma!
